Debt Consolidation/Credit Counseling Frequently Asked Questions
Will creditors come after me when I am in debt consolidation?

Most good debt consolidation companies have a phone number for their clients to give to creditors or debt collectors. In other words, they handle harassing phone calls for you and allow you to focus on rebuilding your financial life.

What often happens is that a client signs a special power of attorney and they contact the creditors to inform them that they must contact the company from now on. Creditors will also be informed of this in writing and this makes it against Federal Trade Commission regulations (The Fair Debt Collection Act) for them to continue to contact you.

Debt consolidation is designed to not only help you get out of debt, but to stop harassment.
